![]() Leadership & Technical Skills • Strategic Research Leadership with Industrial Outcomes Principal Investigator, Co-Investigator and Work Package Leader on projects exceeding €12.7M in funding from UK national agencies (UKRI, EPSRC, AHRC, ESRC, InnovateUK, British Council) and European Commission (Horizon 2020, Erasmus+). UK Principal Investigator for €4M EU-MULTHEM Project, in collaboration with EU partners, delivering advanced CAD-based AM solutions for innovative carbon fibre/aluminium joining, electric motor housings and batteries. Led pioneering research with BAE Systems and DSTL to produce one of the earliest 4D Printed programmable component (2015) — a breakthrough published in a high-impact journal with 95 citations. Partnered with Kingsbury Ltd. to transfer Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) sustainability research into Kingbury's commercial strategy, producing a white paper and case study showcased at the Future Observatory Roundtable at the Design Museum in London. • Innovation, Technology Development & Commercialisation Successfully led multiple Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) and industry collaborations translating research into market-ready products. Developed sustainable AM bio-composite filaments with Singapore-based L’Earth Ltd., creating jobs, expanding R&D capacity and winning a WorldStar Global Packaging Award (2015). Guided UKRI GCRF-funded AquaSense from TRL3 to TRL7, enabling water-quality monitoring in India with societal impact. Delivered commercial products such as Shaker Baker with Flair Ltd. through industry-embedded design education. Collaborated with Dyson, Bosch, Mothercare, Canon, Deliveroo and AgrifoodX Ltd., the latter resulting in novel bioplastic prototypes that de-risked investment and opened new market pathways in AgriTech and Healthcare sectors through InnovateUK funded AgriFlex and MediFlex projects. • Standards Leadership & Global Technical Influence Chair of UK and international standardisation committees for Additive Manufacturing (AM), leading the development of nine published international AM standards adopted in 28 countries, and author of ISO/ASTM TR52912:2020 on Functionally Graded AM. Representing the UK globally since 2014 as Convenor of ISO/TC261/WG4 for Data and Design, and Chair of the UK Standards Committee for AM (BSI AMT/8) since 2017. These efforts have shaped global best practices, strengthened UK industrial competitiveness and standards widely cited in technical literature. EPSRC Design for AM Network Theme Leader (2021); appointed 4th Cohort Member of EPSRC Early Career Forum in Manufacturing Research that involves participating in UKRI national strategic advisory activities. • Policy Influence & National Strategy Shaping Contributed technical expertise to the UK Government Office for Science Foresight Project and the Rapid Technology Assessment on 4D Printing, directly informing the National Science and Technology Framework and influencing national policy on emerging technologies. As Chair of the Engineering Council Artificial Intelligence Working Group, produced national guidance on ethical use of AI in Engineering education; Chair of Engineering Council Learning Outcomes Task Group, harmonised AHEP4 interpretation across Professional Engineering Institutions. Served as Council Member, Trustee, and Fellow of the Institution of Engineering Designers (IED), reforming governance structures and enhancing professional recognition. • Engineering Education Leadership Director of BSc Product Design Engineering programme at Brunel University of London since 2015, accredited by the Institution of Engineering Designers, consistently ranked nationally among the top two courses for graduate employability in the Guardian League Tables (2020-2025). Forged industry partnerships leading to commercialised student products and secured two UKRI-funded PhD scholarships. Supervised 18 doctoral candidates and examined 28 PhD theses. As an Erskine Fellow at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand, contributed to establishing the new School of Product Design (2018). • Promotion & Dissemination of Engineering Knowledge Internationally recognised expert in Additive Manufacturing (AM) and Sustainable Manufacturing, pioneering research in programmable structures. Google Scholar h-index of 31 and Scopus h-index of 26 (2025). Editor-in-Chief of Progress in Additive Manufacturing (Impact Factor 5.4, top-quartile journal in Engineering, Manufacturing, 492K downloads in 2024), Chief Editor of Springer Handbook of Additive Manufacturing (229K downloads); Co-Editor for Guide to Additive Manufacturing (122K downloads); Associate Author of the Wohlers Report 2025.
